GILBERT'S MEDITERRANEAN CAFE

A few weeks ago we had a write-up on the grand opening of Gilbert's Mediterranean Cafe, corner of Tenth Street and Piedmont Avenue. It seems that a number of our readers have patronized the Cafe, some more than once, and they had nothing short of praiseful comments about the friendly atmosphere, the delicious dishes, and the reasonable prices.

Management has just announced that they will be initiating something special every Wednesday night after 10:00 PM, beginning with Wednesday, October 24, 2001. They will be offering a variety of live shows for those patrons who seek entertainement in a lounge and bar atmosphere. The first show will feature a belly-dancer, followed by a flamengo dancer next week, followed by Greek sailor dancers the following week.

Due to the success and the novelty of the entertainement, it is suggested that reservations be made on Wednesday evenings, both for dinner, as well as for the show. The number to call is (404) 872 - 8012. We wish the brothers, Nisan and Gilbert, the best of success in their new undertakings.

MIDTOWNGAZETTE  ENDORSES  JANNIE   GERDS

After careful evaluation and following her campaign for the past several months, we have come to the conclusion that a Midtowner's interests can best be served by a candidate as dedicated as Jannie Gerds, by a candidate as committed for a better Midtown life as Jannie Gerds, and by a candidate as professional as Jannie Gerds. Accordingly, the Midtowngazette and its editors take a great deal of pride in endorsing unequivocally Jannie Gerds to become the next Atlanta City Council Member representing District 6. We invite all of our local readers to join in and vote for Jannie Gerds on Tuesday, November 6th.

For those who are not familiar with Jannie's qualifications and accomplishments, we invite you to check into her biography by clicking on her web page www.votegerds.com. You will find her to be very active in the community and in a number of projects, all designed to upgrade the quality of life around us.

Jannie is currently serving as Vice President of the Midtown Neighbors' Association (MNA), in addition to being the Chairperson for MNA's Public Safety Committee for the past four years. She has been a member of Friends of Piedmont Park, and has served for two years as Commissioner Nancy Boxill's appointed representative to the Community Development Block Grant. A citizen's appropriations committee, where she has helped to equitably distribute federal funds where mostly needed.

Jannie has been an advocate for pay raise for our police force which is long overdue. She is a member of the Atlanta Police Department's Citizens Advisory Council, Zone 5, and the Midtown Alliance Public Safety Committee. She has also been a block captain on her Midtown street. Jannie and her husband Rob have been living on Myrtle Street, along with their dog Wylee, for the past five years.

On Tuesday, November 6th, please cast your vote for Jannie Gerds. It will mean a great deal for Midtown and for the rest of the communities in District 6.
