JANNIE GERDS INVOLVED IN A RUNOFF ELECTION
|
Jannie Gerds mustered well over 2,000 votes to finish second in the District 6 election for the City Council.
As a result, she is involved in a runoff election scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, 2001. This is only a couple of weeks off from next Tuesday. Therefore, a great deal of work needs to be done immediately and time is of essence.
First and foremost, new contributions are needed to finance the work for the next two weeks. Please be as generous as you can. Checks should be drawn to the "Committee To Elect Jannie Gerds".
Additionally, a great number of volounteers are needed again to do the mailing, the planting of yard signs, the phoning and an array of other campaign services. I'm going to quote from the lyrics of an old song: "If I ever needed you, I need you now!". This is it. Let us all get together and finish the job before Thanksgiving.

PRESIDENT BUSH VISITS ATLANTA
Over 4,000 Atlantans were priviledged in listening to President Bush in the World Congress Center last evening, following his visit with the CDC officers and personnel during the day. According to the CDC, there are 32,000 Americans who are now taking antibiotics as precautionary treatment against anthrax.
President Bush's speech was inspiring and factual. He recognized the policeforce, the firefighters, the military, the doctors, nurses and health attendants for their individual contributions since the September 11th tragedy. During his speech, Atlantans accorded him with sixteen standing ovations. The speech was designed to assure Americans that we are one united nation and stronger than before. That life goes on and that the government does its best to protect its citizens and alert them whenever it receives credible threat information. Here are some excerpts from the President's speech:
-
Out of evil can come great good.
- In the face of ongoing threats, we are one determined and courageous nation.
- We value life; the terrorists destroy it loosely.
- We fight war to save civilization. We did not seek it. We will fight it and we will prevail.
- Ours is a great story. We need to tell it by words and deeds.
- We will persevere in this struggle, no matter how long it takes to prevail.
- We defeated enemies of freedom before and we will defeat them again.
- There is a difference between being alert and being intimidated. This great nation will never become intimidated.
Shame on the three major networks NBC, FOX and CBS which elected to go on with their regular programs instead of brocasting the President's speech. Thanks to all Atlantans who paid their respects and embraced
the President with their usual southern hospitality.
