When all the votes were counted in this past Tuesday night in the runoff election for the District 6 City Council seat, Jannie Gerds came in a close second. It was a gallant effort which fell short of its objective. All of us in Midtown would have liked to have Jannie represent us in the Atlanta City Council.
This has been a learning experience for Jannie. She has earned the confidence and affection of all of her supporters and certainly the respect of her community for the dignified manner in which she conducted herself throughout the campaign. She is now posed for better and higher challenges waiting for her to undertake in the future.
We wish Jannie and Rob the very best life has to offer, in the months and years ahead.

Atlanta physicians are the first to use a new procedure:
A small video capsule will be swollowed by a patient.
The patient will wear a special belt with sensors and a data recorder for eight hours and go about his/hers business.
The images will be downloaded into the computer and the doctor will have a perfect view of the inside walls of the intestine of the patient as the camera travels thru..
The procedure for now works only for the small intestine hence we still have to go for the dreaded colonoscopy. But have no fear leave it to science and technology....

CATHY WOOLARD VICTORIOUS IN RUNOFF ELECTION
|
|
Cathy Woolard won comfortably the seat for the Atlanta City Council Presidency in the runoff election last Tuesday night. Her victory was not only impressive, but equally stunning. As the early results were coming in, after the polls were closed, she was trailing her opponent by as much as ten percentage points. This was exactly the margin by which she won when all the votes were counted in. Our heartiest congratulations to Cathy for becoming the first woman to occupy the City Council Presidency in Atlanta's history.
In addition to having a woman mayor-elect Shirley Franklin, we now have a woman City Council President. First time, an all-women leadership team in Atlanta's history. We wish both ladies a harmonious and succesful working relationship. We have no doubt that when they put their minds together, they will end up doing a better job than their predecesors.
This is the second time Cathy Woolard wins a runoff election impressively. When she first ran for the District 6 City Council seat, she was involved in a runoff election with the incumbent Mary Davis. It appears that Cathy may not win easily the first time, but she becomes a formidable opponent when it comes to runoff elections.
Our best wishes to Cathy for a successful reign as Atlanta's City Council President.
