PEARL HARBOR
"... December 7, 1941, a day that will live in infamy."
President Roosevelt
|
Exactly sixty years ago to the day, the Japanese made the fatal mistake of attacking Pearl Harbor at 7:55 AM Pacific time. It was the act of an arrogant and cocky government which believed that they can become the supreme imperial force in the Pacific. They paid dearly for their arrogant and sneaky attack. When Admiral Yamamoto was informed by an exuberant group of naval officers that the mission was completed above and beyond their expectations, the Admiral with a sober face responded: "All we have done is ... we have just awaken a sleeping giant." The rest is history.
Ironically enough, sixty years later, another group of arrogant and fanatic terrorists led by an equally fanatic creature named Osama Bin Laden made the same fatal mistake. On September 11, 2001 they had awaken the sleeping giant again. History repeats itself. Only this time with more devastating results.
It is unfortunate that many people and governments on this earth underestimate the resolve of the American people. We stand united behind our leader and the entire nation speaks with one determined voice. Pearl Harbor should have tought a lesson to the entire world. Unfortunately some didn't learn. Let us hope that this is the last time the sleeping giant has been awaken and that there will not be another day that will live in infamy.

GEORGIA WELCOMES RANGERS BACK HOME
|
|
About 200 Rangers of the 75th Ranger Regiment returned home to their base at Fort Benning, Georgia this past Thursday. They were the first ones to be sent to Afghanistan on October 19th in an airborne assault on Taliban targets in the city of Kandahar. The entire community, as well as the whole nation welcomes all 200 of them with open arms and we express our ever-lasting gratitude for their brave conduct and loyal service to this great nation.
The 75th Ranger Regiment is considered the Army's premier light infantry fighting force. Every member of the Regiment believes that he can fight harder than any other soldier. It is this dynamic attitude which makes them a premier fighting force. When they were dropped into Afghanistan during the night of October 19th, in sheer darkness, they used night-vision goggles to locate their targets and hit installations in the Taliban stronghold around Kandahar.
During an interview to a CNN reporter, Lt. Jim Hathaway said: "It's good to be back. We knew (that) what we were doing was right and good. I'd like to say thank you to the public. What we've seen on the news, this outcry of support from the American public, has made us feel very good." And if I may add, it made us feel very proud of your bravery and your individual and collective accomplishments. May God bless you all.
The families of the 200 Rangers couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift. Merry Christmas to all.
