Since this is our last issue prior to Christmas, we would like to wish all of our readers a Merry Christmas and Peace in every corner of the world. There is nothing more noble in spirit and thought than to care for your community neighbor and extend a hand to those in need. Christmas is the time we exchange gifts among our loved ones. We can extend this habit beyond relatives. The world will be such a better place to live in.
One of the most memorable Christmases that Alice and I enjoyed immensily, was the year when a church gave us a list of families in need. No names were divulged. No identities. No locations. The only thing we had as a guidance was the sex and age of the children in each family. We went out shopping for a 5 year old boy, a 7 year old school boy and a 10 year old girl. We used our imagination as to what would be a meaningful and yet enjoyable gift for each one of those kids. I remember staying up past midnight, gift wrapping the toys, dresses and gifts for those mystery recepients. I enjoyed the moment of visualizing the joy and fun the children would have had when opening their gifts on Christmas morning.
This is a special Christmas for 2,996 families who lost their loved ones during the September 11th disaster.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them. May the spirit of Christmas guide them to brighter and better days
in the years ahead.

100 DAYS SINCE SEPTEMBER 11TH
|
|
We heard and read a lot today as the press and the major networks rushed to cover the 100 days milestone since September 11th. There is nothing significant about 100 days. Yesterday was 99 days and tomorrow will be 101 days. The state of affairs remains the same. We are still at war, fighting terrorism. What is significant, is how we as a nation have survived the September 11th disaster and what have we learned from it. Let us review the days which followed the event. The positives largely outweigh the negatives.
During the first couple of days, most of us were in shock and in panic. A great number of New Yorkers were in grief and searching for their loved ones when they failed to report home that evening and the following evening as well. The initial estimate was placed well over 6,000 dead. Yesterday, the Mayor of New York placed the number of dead below 3,000. To be exact 2,996. Still, a high amount of casualties, considering the fact that these were innocent people who died on American soil during peacetime. 100 days later the panic is gone. If anything, we are one unified and resolved nation standing firmly behind our leader and his government.
During the course of the following days, President Bush along with Secretary of State Colin Powell and Prime Minister Tony Blair of Great Britain were able to form a coalition of 26 nations which made a commitment to support and participate in the war against terrorism. Ever since, our air force has bombed the hell out of Taliban targets in Afghanistan and continues to do so on a daily basis. The once powerful Taliban government which governed Afghanistan with an iron fiest under the most brutal and primative conditions,
is nowhere to be found today. Instead, 100 days later, there is an interim government formed by various regional leaders, ready to govern Afghanistan in an open and more democratic form of government.
100 days later, the Statute of Liberty opened its doors to tourists again. The Statute of Liberty is the symbol of freedom, liberty and hope to every immigrant. All in all, our response, strike, and speed of multiple accomplishments have been amazingly successful. Our air force, navy, special forces and marines have once again proven to the world that we are an awesome power that can strike decisively in a moment's notice. May God forgive those who elect to wake up the sleeping giant again.
